Beer Batter Onion Rings

Once or twice I’ve found a restaurant that makes a decent onion ring, but truly tasty ones are hard to come by. Until now…

Time: 30min  Portions: 4


2 Medium red onions (sliced into rings)
250ml Flour
250ml Beer (I used a blonde craft beer)
500ml Cooking oil
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Black pepper
1/2 tsp Paprika
1/2 tsp Dried sweet basil
1/2 tsp Harrybasco chilli sauce


Place the oil in a medium sized pot on medium high heat. While that’s heating up, combine the flour, beer and spices. Mix well. Dip each onion ring in the mixture and make sure it’s well coated. Test the heat of the oil by dipping the end of an onion ring in it. It needs to bubble when it touches the oil. Place a couple of rings in at a time for 45seconds to 1 min, flipping them over half way. Remove once golden and place on a paper towel.
